Sorry for the hiatus from this lovely little space but there was this little thing called finals and I’ve been getting used to the 9-5 (which I haven’t really done since high school)! Anyway let me give you a little update on what has been happening in the lovely little life of Katherine (and Poppy & Winston)!

We spent Memorial Day with my Dad at his cabin in North Minnesota! Winston got his party on at Doggie Daycare before our 5 hour drive up north…

It was cold and rainy the entire weekend, no tv, and no internet so while I amused myself with spider solitaire and tv show reruns on my ipad Winston got to run around outside in the rain and the lake and Poppy chased all the birds in front of the windows!

Winston got a little scared during the thunderstorms so he snuggled with Mommy and his stuffed bird.

Winston loved spending time with my Dad and my Grandpa. Grandpa has wrinkles just like him!

We went to a Pancake Breakfast at the Firehouse on Sunday morning where when we walked in got all these funny looks because no one knew who we were! Seriously, there is less than 400 people in this tiny little town and then these two random people walk in!

We also played some Bingo at the local lodge, it’s on the Indian reservation so it was pretty legit Bingo!

My grandmother had a knee replacement so we brought Winston in to cheer her up! I think he cheered up the other patients in the wing too!

Then on our way out of town I stopped by my other grandparents’ house and took them out for lunch!

Then Poppy, Winston and I settled in for a long ride home…

things I’ve seen in court so far…

This week has been an experience to say the least… there have been some memorable experiences that have gone on this week… Here are the top 5:

1. Word of God
One Respondent started speaking the word of God when she was testifying, and by word of God I do not mean the Gospel I mean she literally started speaking as if she was God. What was this profound thing she felt God needed to get across? Something about a guy named Conrad, there was no one named Conrad in the courtroom…

2. Pencil
We (the Judge, his full time law clerk, the court reporter and I) had (well I would say ‘got’) to go to the Medical Center to hold a hearing in front of a patient there who could not come to the courthouse because he was in the ICU. Why? Because he shoved a pencil in his EYE.

3. Orders
I wrote some orders this week. I committed a respondent to six months of hospitalization, another respondent I REcommitted and another one was an order to enforce them to take medication.

4. Get a Lawyer
One of the Respondents, on the probate side, did not hire a lawyer and therefore represented himself. He then proceeded to remind the Court multiple times that he was not lawyer and not educated in the law. Oh he also reminded us that he was an “adored nephew” by his aunt and that was why she ‘gave’ him $15,000… oh by the by she was in a coma at the time… Word to the Wise: just get a lawyer, it makes everyone less agitated with you.

5. Telephone
The lawyer for Plaintiff in the “get a lawyer” case didn’t show up for the hearing. He sent out a notice of appearance to the Respondent and the Court the day before for an 9AM hearing and then didn’t show. The court called him to reprimand him and then we proceeded to have the hearing with him presenting via phone. Judge turned to me after and goes “Lesson 1 Katherine, don’t waste a Judge’s time” Heard and remembered Judge!

Can’t wait to tell yall more exciting things! Hope summer is off to a fantastic start! Leaving to go to Houston today for my friend Megan’s wedding! Texas is calling!

to do list after finals…

I took a break from studying for my crim law exam to make a little list of things I want to do after my Foundations of Justice exam (which NO OTHER 1L has to take by the way!) I got one of those stylus pens for my ipad so now I can scribble all over it! I used the app Penultimate… love it. So do you have any other ideas for me to do after my free time has gone from -5 hours to a normal persons?

Thoughts on that blonde v brunette thing?

What should I sew?

When should I go to AUSTIN?! (Mom want to bring me home?)

greeeeeeek yogurt

So this whole finals thing has got me a little down… I mean you study all day all night, take the test, walk out shell in physical pain and shocked, take a nap and then have to start the same process for the next test! So there are some people who when stressed they forget to eat (lucky ducks). I however do the opposite… everything in sight! So I’ve been trying to come up with healthy snacks/meals/stressed out nibbles/you get the picture! And in thinking about these healthy snacks I have been ruminating on the best healthy snack I have ever had in my life. GREEK. YOGURT.

I’m not talking about the kind you grab by the milk in Target. I am talking about the real stuff. The stuff you get in Greece! I’m pretty sure I would fly back to Greece just for some real yogurt. I swear you can taste the sunshine and the blue roofs of Santorini in every bite.

The only problem with this picture is that the yogurt in that bowl is to be found no where in the US! What are your favorite Greek Yogurts in the US?

I am officially taking a break from studying for Crim Law to go get some yogurt put some honey and fruit in it and look at pictures of Greece.

Oh and I’m going to make these:
