I have ashes on my forehead today. I am fasting today. Today is the beginning of the Lenten season.

Lent is about conversion. Turning our lives over to Christ and his way more completely. It is a transitional period and come Easter our lives are supposed to be more in line with the Holy Trinity.

To achieve this most people give up something and as a kid I usually gave up candy because Katherine on a sugar high was like giving a hyper puppy a shot of adrenaline. Not a good situation when you want a chill kid.

For this Lenten season I have decided to nix all cola. I’ve learned I have to be very specific about this because one year I gave up coke and then I was drinking sprite… geez even I am not safe from myself.

As Lent is a time for change it seems only appropriate to also add something to your life as well, to make your life more spiritual. This season I’m adding two things.

I am adding 10 minutes of “spiritual time” each day. I’m hesitating to put a morning or night label on it because I know the next 40 days are going to be crazy busy, and that’s why I kept the time low, because this is mostly about growing my spiritual relationship with Christ.

I am also adding running. But since I like to keep things fun I’m calling it my 40 by 40 runs. Or if you want to join in on twitter or instagram #40×40. 40 miles for the 40 days and 40 nights of Lent.

Do you celebrate Lent? Are you giving something up?

PS Lent is today! Get your ash in Church!

I always participate in Lent, but not the in the typical give something up way. Well, sort of. I’m only going to watch 1 hour to TV a day during Lent (I usually watch A LOT more) and I am going to exercise every single day in some way!

bahaha… get your ash to church… I like that! I’m giving up Chipotle, while also vowing to donate clothes and other items to charity. Adding in spiritual time was part of my new years resolution!

I love that you talk about not putting a morning or night label on your time with Him… Because I love to label like that and then I just end up SUPER stressed out about it. It works better in my day to do it in the evening before bed… But somehow I think it’s more holy to do so in the morning… I think that’s a confused thought because I believe He’s just happy I’m there!
