2015 in Lists: Week 24

I was really sick this week and let’s face it, for at least one day I barely got out of bed. Not going to lie, one day the only reason I left my apartment was to get medicine and a diet coke.

So besides only when you’re sick, what are some of the things that keep you trucking on?

This week’s prompt:

List the things that keep you going

diet coke

2015 in Lists: Week 23

This past weekend in Napa, stay tuned for pictures, we kept saying #firstworldproblems, we were drunk no judgment. But it got me thinking, yeah if we had to we could live without cell phones, internet, etc butsince that is probably not going to happen anytime soon, unless we have some apocalyptic situation surprise us, what are those things that I feel like I need?

This week’s prompt is:

What are your 21st Century needs?

phone and purse

2015 in Lists: Week 22

Yesterday my mom starts talking about her trip in the fall to Peru and I literally almost spit my coffee at her. I knew she was seriously considering going but not it’s actually happening. Super jealous. I mean she gets to experience Machu Picchu and I’ll be schlepping at work in Dallas. Man oh man, I might not be able to do much work that week that she’s there because I’ll be daydreaming about it so much.

But it got me thinking, where do I want to travel. Not, where can I afford to travel (friend’s couch in a neighboring county) but where do I want to go?

This week’s prompt:

List the places you want to travel

If you want to see some of the places that are on my lists check them out here!

2015 in Lists: Week 21

With all these rainstorms I’ve been burning a lot of candles just in case I lose electricity. I keep getting waves of different scents from each part of my apartment. I cannot decide on my favorite ones, I love them all! Then I baked cookies and I threw my hands up because I just couldn’t handle all the goodness!

This week’s prompt is:

List your favorite smells

2015 in Lists: Week 20

Who has seen some pictures of graduations lately?

*everyone raises their hand*

Graduation season is in full swing (don’t you love how it overlaps with wedding season?) and I’ve said Congratulations to so many people the past weekend and I will be saying it for a few more weeks that it reminded me of my law school graduation last year.

Anyway, when I told someone Congrats this weekend, my friend kinda blew it off, “oh thanks, no big deal.” I grabbed her hand and was like “No. This is a HUGE deal! You should be PROUD of yourself!” She blushed and I was slightly more happy.

But that got me thinking, what were some other things that we should be proud of but, for one reason or another, we aren’t. These are things that can range from big, hello graduation, to small, hi there loading the dishwasher for the first time in a week.

So this week’s prompt is:

List what you should be proud of

hells yeah

2015 in Lists: Week 19

I loved hearing how I’m not the only one who was turning into their mother!

This past weekend I read two books, yeah you heard that right, two. Lord, it felt great. There was a character in one of the books I read that I was like Damn why can’t I meet you IRL?! Then it hit me: perfect list.

This week’s prompt is:

List the Fictional Characters You’d Like to Meet

Neville circa Deathly Hallows is at the top of my list…

2015 in Lists: Week 18

I loved seeing all the ways you chillax last week! I’ve now added meditation, walks outside, and driving aimlessly to my list of things to do to relax.

I’ve been getting my mom’s Mother’s Day gift ready (get excited mom!) and I was reflecting on what to write in that dang card, always a dilemma right? I decided to take a break from this major writing problem and turned t my kitchen. It was a disaster, as always, and my hands just came up and I said to no one in particular, since there was no one around, ‘I just can’t right now.’

Then I froze because my mother does that all the time. I had one of those I’m turning into my mother moments. Do you have those? Where you do or say something and you think did that really just happen?!

I’ve called my mom before and told her I’m turning into you, she just laughs and says I told you so. So in that vein and because Mother’s Day is Sunday…

This week’s prompt:

List what makes you like your Mom

I got lots of good ideas on what makes yall feel better now I want to know how you relax! I spent all day yesterday at a beach house for a bachelorette party, the beach was relaxing, the party was… well a party!

Have you ever heard the expression you need a vacation after your vacation? That’s basically happening to me right now… I just need a day to relax!

2015 in Lists: Week 15

How did your spring cleaning last week go? I think a new vacuum might be going on my to-buy list… Or maybe an apartment with wood floors so I can just swiffer everything!

This weekend while I was spring cleaning/playing tug o’ war with Winston I had Psych episodes playing. There is one episode where Shawn and Gus are in a fort they built starting a secret club. There were, obviously, rules of this secret club, and Gus got to make up one special rule: Love of Correct Grammar. I was wiping down my counter tops and said “Amen Gus.” There are a few things that irk me every time and incorrect grammar is one of the top three.

The other two would be: Time left on the microwave (just hit clear!) and people who interrupt me (seriously just shut it).

I thought it would be interesting to see how my pet peeves changed over the years because incorrect grammar didn’t start bugging me until the last three years or so. Do you think your pet peeves have changed?

This week’s prompt is:

List your Pet Peeves

2015 in Lists: Week 14

Right before the last date I went on I cleaned my apartment because I really didn’t think my dishwashing hatred and hoarding tendencies should be broadcast on a second date. While I was cleaning I actually had the thought: thank goodness it’s spring cleaning time. Then did a double take in my head and was like Katherine you want to clean? Its true, not only do I want to clean, I need to clean.

I  mean do I really need law school papers? No one cares about my paper on Extraterritorial Jurisdiction. Unless you do and then I can totally send it to you for a bit of hermionie-esq lite reading.

This week’s prompt is:

List how you’re going to clean for spring

I’ve got my April Fool’s prank all planned for my office. I’m not giving anything away until it happens but let’s just say you’ll want to check my instagram on Wednesday…

There are some pranks that I would love to do but I don’t have enough time, or don’t have the resources, or I’m just plain chicken to go THAT far!

This week’s prompt is:

List the April Fool’s Jokes you’re dying to try!

2015 in Lists: Week 12

Confession: At this very moment I have 25 saved episodes of JAG on my DVR. I have my DVR set to record every episode of JAG whenever it’s on any channel. It ended in 2005 and I’m pretty sure I only watched the final season when I was in high school. I watch NCIS it’s spinoff religiously but JAG is just so…. good. The show is great and the fact that Harm is super hot isn’t bad either.

I got to thinking what other shows were cancelled or ended that I still wish were showing new episodes? The first one’s that sprang to mind were: JAG, Friends, Psych, Sex and the City, Veronica Mars and then when I really went deep I came up with Commander in Chief, Chuck, Combat Hospital, and Pan Am.

This week’s prompt is:

List the tv shows you wish were still on tv

tv 4

If you haven’t seen any of those shows you need to hop on Netflix and binge right now. But I warn you, you might be left unsatisfied because some of them were cancelled way to soon!

Download you Week 12 List, check out all the other 2015 Lists, and share on social media with the #DOP2015Lists! I can’t wait to see which shows you are still pining for! I might have to check those out on Netflix too!

2015 in Lists: Week 11

I had a shock the other day when I was going on a ride along with the Plano Police Department. I knew police put themselves into dangerous situations but for some reason it was quite translating that I would be put into those dangerous situations when I put myself in the car with them. Stupid right?

I was told by my ride along officers that I could get out of the car unless they expressly told me to stay put. For the most part I was allowed to get out of the car and shadow them on multiple traffic stops and disturbance calls. But there as one call where when we pulled up the officer looked right at me and told me to stay in the car no matter what.

It was right about then that my stomach dropped and I got scared. I mean really scared. I had to remind myself that there were multiple police officers with guns and tasers and muscles that were between me and any danger that came up. But hey I was still scared.

I decided to take that eye opening experience and use it for this week’s prompt…

This week’s prompt is:

List the things that make you feel safe

2015 in Lists: Week 10

Let’s just say my pin game was strong last week when there was a snow day and I was laying on the couch with a passed out Winston. I was on a career kick and was perusing The Everygirl, Levo League, and a few other 20 & 30 somethings career driven pages.

I spent some time paging through articles titled How to help your Career and 30 Days of advancing your career. I realized that I don’t want to become complacent and I don’t want to coast. I want to actively work for my career and to start doing that I need to figure out ways I can advance my career and myself in my chosen field.

I invite you to join me in this endeavor this week. Thinking through and actually making a list of ideas to advance your career gives you something tangible to look at. Plus, wouldn’t it feel amazing to cross something off that list!

This week’s prompt is:

List the ways you can advance your career

2015 in Lists: Week 9

This weekend I was sick. As in I have strep throat and a cold at the same time. Sick as in the doctor felt the need to prescribe an Rx and a steroid shot because, as she said “you just look terrible.” Thanks Doc, remind me to recommend your bedside manner… but yeah I’ll take that Rx.

I always get sick in February/March and then again in October/November and it’s usually strep throat. But Katherine you say, why don’t you just chop off your tonsils?! I did that right before I went to college and guess what, it hasn’t made a difference. My mom never got strep when I had it as a kid, it’s like I’m the carrier in the family and I only infect myself. Anyway, I started to feel bad Thursday night and by Friday afternoon I knew tylenol wasn’t going to cut it. But here’s the catch, my health insurance didn’t start until Sunday and I really wasn’t about to shell out $50 more dollars to get a Rx one day earlier. You might be shaking your head, but that was my thought process.

So instead of complaining about how I had to wait one day for health insurance, I decided to count my blessings. I started to write and write and write. Things got pretty personal and deep around the Nolden apartment!

So this week I won’t be sharing my list with you but  I will be sharing one thing that I think should be on everyone’s list, and yet it probably won’t be because you might overlook it. But this blessing is the most basic blessing and one that shouldn’t be overlooked because of it’s simplicity and power.

This week’s prompt is:

List your Blessings

I did write on my list I’m blessed to have health insurance.

How are you blessed?

2015 in Lists: Week 8

The past two days have been “snow days” for me! The quotes are because by snow I mean ice since it’s Texas, my internet has been spotty to say the least so I’ve been streaming Netflix when I can and snuggling with Winston.

I spent the weekend with a friend who besides making me think about everything I thought I knew also called me beautiful. That isn’t something I usually think about myself, especially in the physical sense. I’d bet money that you and most women don’t wake up every morning, look in the mirror, and tell yourself and themselves that they’re beautiful. But you know what? You are, and they are. So I figured that this week would be a great week to figure out how you’re beautiful.
This week’s prompt is:
list what makes you beautiful

As you can see most of the things I went with aren’t physical and I did think outside the box. I encourage you to think outside the box and outside the physical appearance! Plus if you’re ever feeling like you’re not beautiful just take out your list and glance over it!

Download your Week 8 list and make sure you have the rest of the lists for 2015!
I hope everyone has a fantastic week and remember, you are beautiful!

2015 in Lists: Week 7

Someone asked me if I had a tattoo on Thursday, they were asking in a super inappropriate way so I slapped him promptly gave a smart a** comment and walked away but ti got me thinking. I thought about things that I would get a tattoo of if I went under the needle again and then I thought wait what about the things that I would never allow someone to ink on my skin? I’m talking about the absolute no-way-no-how-get-that-ink-far-away-from-me things. So thanks to rando in the bar…

This week’s prompt is:

List things you would not get a tattoo of…

As you can see my list is quite short and that’s because I’m pretty sure you could talk me into getting basically anything else. But those three things? Nope.

You know I have a tattoo right? Yeah, see how much of a nerd I am… Do you have any tattoos that are particularly awesome?! I’d love to see them! Print your List Prompt, fill it out, and share it on social media with #DOP2015Lists I can’t wait to see what you wouldn’t get !

2015 in Lists: Week 6

It’s Valentine’s day on Saturday (is there anyone who doesn’t know this?) so for this week’s list I want you to think about everyone that you love!

I’m going to lie, seeing how many people you love written down in black and white, or in my case pink and red, was kind of awesome. When I was making my list I wasn’t in a bad mood but if I was just looking at this list would make me happier. I mean if half of the people (and pets) on my list return those feelings then I’m golden.

This week’s prompt is:

List the people (or pets) that you love

Give everyone on your list a little extra love this week!

2015 in Lists: Week 5

I’ve been working on organizing and cleaning out my closet last weekend and I started to think about what the favorite pieces in my closet were. Those things that I love because they make me feel fantastic when I wear them  (like the suit I have that makes me feel like I can conquer the world in) or those pieces that I love to wear and are so pretty to look at too (like my kate spade heels that are completely covered in glitter).

Do you have pieces in your closet like that? That evoke feelings, or make you feel like a million bucks, or are just so dang beautiful. You just thought of something didn’t you?

This week’s prompt is:

list your favorite items in your closet

Go ahead and print your List Prompt, fill it out, and share it on social media with #DOP2015Lists I can’t wait to see your favorite closet items!

Sometimes you just need a reminder about what puts a smile on your face right? Sometimes if you’re feeling sad or just need a little pick me up it’s nice to think about something that you know will put you in a better mood!
This week I want to think about things that make me smile! Like Buddy the Elf said ‘Smiling’s my Favorite!’

Plus isn’t there some scientific research that says smiling can actually make you happy and decrease stress? Yep, there is! So this week I hope by making this list everyone’s stress levels go down and happiness levels go through the roof!

2015 in Lists: Week 3

I don’t know about yall but I have some crazy dreams from time to time. Do you too? Or what about those reoccurring dreams? I have good ones and super bad ones.

I was talking with some police officers at work the other day before a trial and we got on the subject of dreams. They both were telling me that they have reoccurring dreams of running into a dangerous situation and being shot at but when they grab their gun it jams or there are no bullets. I sat there with my eyes wide because the worst ‘career’ dream I have is being butt naked during closing arguments. It’s not exactly deadly like my officers’ dreams are but I still wake up sweating.

It got me thinking, I wonder what dreams other people remember. I tend to remember the bad ones because they still freak me out. I wondered if other people had reoccurring dreams that freak them out or make them laugh or feel good.

This week’s prompt is:

List the dreams you remember

I’d love to know what dreams you remember! If you can fill up your page more than mine or if you can only write one down on yours!

2015 in Lists: Week 2

One thing I hear a lot when I talk with friends on the weekend is “I really need to get organized next week.” You know from this List Project that lists are just one (major) way I get organized so when try to figure out how my friends plan on becoming such an organizational wizard our conversation goes a little something like this:

“how are you going to get organized?”

Right. Well I think if you want to get organized you need to start with how are you going accomplish that! Right? So it’s sort of getting organized to get organized. Makes sense.

This week’s list prompt is:

List how you Get Organize

I’d love to know how you get organized, the little things you do, the big things, the new things you’ve found that works, the things you learned from your grandmother that you’ve done all your life. How do you get organized?

Print your List Prompt, fill it out, and share it on Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #DOP2015Lists! I’d love to see your organizational skills! Full disclosure: I might steal some of your awesome ideas or maybe you’ll steal some of mine!

2015 in Lists: Week 1

If you know me you know I love lists and calendars. I quite literally have six calendars in my office. SIX. I also make lists all the time, then sometimes I make lists that cross reference things, lists that are color coded, lists for fun, lists for things I need to remember months in the future, and lists so I remember things in the past. I also make lists of my lists.

Once I had a list that read:
1) finish list of to -do’s
2) get things on grocery list
3) finish reading list
4) complete post idea list

See? Lists of lists.

So when I found Moorea Seal and here 52 Lists Project I was hooked! Then she got super busy and had to stop and I was crushed! So this year I decided to emulate her and do my own year in lists. Each week on Sunday I will be posting a list for the week. This is not your mom’s to-do list, the prompts range from: list the people you love to list the things you would never get a tattoo of!
I’m super excited to share these lists with other list addicts! Feel free to print the list prompts and share your completed lists on twitter or instagram with the hashtag #DOP2015lists.

This the first week and in honor of the New Year this week’s prompt is:

List what you are looking forward to this year

You’ll notice mine range from the serious to the silly! These are your lists, this is your year, make it however you want!

At the end of the year you’ll have a fun way to remember and reflect on 2015! You will have 52 different lists and you’ll be able to go back and see how you’ve grown, see if you would write anything different from when you first wrote the list, and also have an excuse to list your heart out!

Download your Week 1 list here

Have a wonderful first full week of 2015! Happy New Year!
